Why Use Window Feeders: Closer, Cleaner, Cheaper, Safer
Get up close and personal with the birds in your backyard. Our Window Feeder brings birds so close it feels like you could almost reach out and touch one (but don't scare them away). Great for blends, peanuts and safflower, this durable feeder attaches right to your window pane with suction cups, allowing you to see every bird detail. It's easy to fill, easy to clean and backed with a lifetime guarantee.
Bring Birds Closer
Many people feed birds for years, attract a wide variety of species, have large numbers of birds visiting their feeders, and think that they have achieved backyard bird nirvana. But if there's one thing better than lots of birds, it's lots of birds really close. Have you ever been thrilled when a bird showed the unprecedented confidence in you of approaching within 10 feet or so? With a window feeder, it's easy to position yourself on the immediate other side of the glass and view birds from 10 inches away. Imagine if your closest friends and family members were kept at a 10 ft distance from you at all times so that you couldn't see any of the subtle details of their face and expression - real proximity allows not just identification, but perception.
Low-mess
If you've been deterred from feeding birds on a balcony or other mess-sensitive location due to the need for total cleanliness, window feeders may be your answer. Most of these feeders are based on boxes or trays with high sides to keep seed from spilling. Using no-mess foods like sunflower chips, Bark Butter Bits, or shelled peanuts leaves no messy hulls or shells behind.
Affordable
Many of these feeders are small and are good either as starter feeders or as add-on feeders to complement full size hanging feeders, bringing the birds already in your yard closer to you.
Reduce window strikes
One easily preventable cause of bird injury is poorly placed feeders. Birds suddenly fleeing a feeder that is too close to a window (generally under 15 feet away) may not notice the window in their way in their hurry to escape the perceived danger. Window feeders work against this danger in two ways: they present solid objects which show flying birds that there is something there, and they encourage birds to feed next to the window itself, from where any escape routes will involve moving away from the glass. Read our Reducing Window Strikes for more ways to make windows safer for birds.
Rodent-proof
Even the most agile squirrels and rodents cannot walk directly upon vertical glass panes. A feeder placed in the middle of a window - with adequate distance from climbable edges - is usually inaccessible to everyone without wings.
